Common questions
Does every state require this bond?
No. Only a few states license payroll processors. Maine is one; its law sets the bond by the taxes processed in the busiest three months of the prior year, with a minimum and maximum.
Are any processors exempt?
In Maine, processors that cannot access or move client funds, or that only send funds straight to taxing authorities, are exempt.
