What this bond guarantees

The bond promises the state Medicaid agency that the provider will repay overpayments, fines, and other amounts it owes the program. In Florida, the Agency for Health Care Administration may require it of providers paid fee-for-service. If the provider does not pay what it owes, the agency collects from the surety.

What the underwriter looks at

Requirements vary by state and by who asks for the bond. Send us the request you received and we will confirm exactly what it calls for.

Common questions

How much is the bond in Florida?

The agency may require up to $50,000 or the provider's total Medicaid billing in the most recent year, whichever is greater. New providers are bonded on their first-year billing estimate.

Are physician-owned practices treated differently?

In Florida, yes. If licensed physicians own at least half of the provider, the bond need not exceed $50,000. Assisted living facilities have the same cap.

Is this the same as the Medicare DMEPOS bond?

No. The DMEPOS bond is a federal Medicare requirement. The Medicaid bond is a separate state requirement.
