What this bond guarantees
The bond promises the state insurance department that the adjuster will follow the state's adjuster licensing law. A person harmed by the adjuster's violation can make a claim, and the state can enforce the bond. It is separate from the public adjuster bond, which covers adjusters who work for policyholders.

Common questions
Which states require it?
Only a few. The NAIC licensing chart lists a $1,000 bond in New York, which licenses independent and public adjusters, and a $10,000 bond in Minnesota. Requirements change, so check your state.
Is this the same as a public adjuster bond?
No. Public adjusters represent policyholders and usually need a larger bond. Florida, for example, requires $50,000 for public adjusters.
I am licensed in several states. Do I need a bond in each?
You need one in each state that requires it. Your home-state bond does not carry over.
