What this bond guarantees
The bond promises the state that the licensee will safeguard the money it handles for clients and residents. If facility staff misuse that money, the resident or the state can claim on the bond. California Health and Safety Code 1560, 1568.021, and 1569.60 require a bond of not less than $1,000 when the facility handles client money.

Common questions
Does every facility need the bond?
No. Facilities that handle less than $50 per person and less than $500 for all residents each month are exempt. Licensees certify their bonding need on form LIC 400.
How much bond is required?
At least $1,000, scaled to the money you handle. The Department can review your bonding need at renewal or any time.
